The state Academic Bolshoi Theatre named after Alisher Navoi –unique Bolshoi theater on all space not only Central Asia, but also in Southern - Eastern Asia. Achievements of theater is real pride of our nation, really great property of Uzbek people.
The theater was established in 1939 on the basis of Uzbek musical theater. In 1947 it was marked for theater by its association with troupe of Russian opera theater. And in 1948 it was appropriated a named of Alisher Navoi.
Building of theater is rather unique. For its creation there was announced competition, its winner was project A.V.Shusev – academician of architecture. This project was recognized as answering all national traditions in architecture and functional tasks. Construction of theater began in 1939, but due to difficulties of a wartime in 1942 it was interrupted. Construction was re-activated, and continued in 1944 after change was outlined during hostilities. Japanese prisoners of war who in November, 1945 were deported from Kvantunsk army took part in the final stage of construction of theater building. National artists of Uzbekistan participated in finishing works were - H.Boltayev, A.Hudaybergenov, Usta Shirin Murodov and other real masters.
In a building of theater there are six lateral foyers, each of which possesses unique architectural decor inherent in this or that area of the republic. Theater halls also possess features and own style of – Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, Termez, Fergana and Khorezm. Halls and foyer of theater are decorated with wall painting on plots of well-known poems of Alisher Navoi and landscapes of Uzbekistan.
According to proposal of academician A.V.Shusev upon termination of construction before a portal of theater there was erected a fountain which was finishing link of architectural complex and became a magnificent ornament of the capital of Uzbekistan.
